Is anyone familar with the merits/properties of various clear finishes that are useful for the exterior of a cabin in the woods. Specifically I am interested in mildew and mold resistance properties. The cabin is at 1900 ft. elevation on the Eastern slope of the Cascade mountains in Washington state. Some of the products that I am currently considering are; Sikkens/SRD, Penafin, Lovitt’s Natural Gold.

Sikkens around here, but not the SRD. Consider the Cetol 1-23 system if mildew is your concern. The 23 process is specific to UV and mildew.
Scott.
Always remember those first immortal words that Adam said to Eve, “You’d better stand back, I don’t know how big this thing’s going to get.”
Cetol 1 & 2,3 are about (if not already) to become extinct. They are replacing it with a one product system, go figure, best thing on the market and they're phasing it out because some boneheads don't want to buy 2 cans for a project! I've got a small stockpile ...
That's a shame. I hadn't heard. I totally agree with your view.Scott.Always remember those first immortal words that Adam said to Eve, “You’d better stand back, I don’t know how big this thing’s going to get.”
Not sure what material is on the outside of the building, but double boiled linseed oil has been used on the cottage I own for some 50 years on rough cut cedar beveled lap siding and it's like brand new.
Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
Lovitt's Natural Gold is a great choice for mountain log homes, I use it on my log home outside of Morton, WA and have had good results with it. Looks amazing. I put on a fresh coat every 4 years for 12 years now, the product is easy to recoat with their wood cleaner kits between coats. I highly recommend it. I had used sikkens before and had trouble with keeping it up.
