I’m looking at an appraisal on a house in Clinton County Michigan. House is 20 years old and has a wood foundation.
Anybody live/work in that area? Could you tell me if wood foundations are an acceptable building technique in this area?
Thanks

have the foundation inspected by an expert.
If it was done RIGHT it should be OK.
but too many things can be done wrong to say y/n without a firsthand inspection.
ACTUALLY, IT'S QUITE GOOD ON TOAST!
Thanks.I'm not trying to determine if this particular foundation is acceptable. I'm trying to find out if wood foundations are common in this area. Would the typical homebuyer accept this type of foundation?Mike K

I live in west MI and while I've heard of them I've never seen one. You are talking about the full depth basement walls in .60 treated aren't you? Call the local building inspector and see how many he has seen.
Mike, Mich is the second largest state in number of wood foundations. They are well accepted in most areas. Clinton is one of those areas. Done right they are a super system, done poorly, well ... hope this helps
