That's pretty cool that it made it through. I wouldn't say "unscathed" because it sounds like the entry steps got ripped away from the side of the house.
But it did better than the next door houses: "Three houses directly to the east are gone. The houses to the west have the windows blown out and are likely trashed inside."
Amazing that they spent the night in a beach front house directly in the path of the hurricane and came out unharmed while several neighboring houses are just gone.

As recently as 10 days ago, you could register at NYT with a user ID of cookstalk and a password of finecooking.
Boy I can't get no where, it didn't work (story of my life) :-)
Worked for me, but man, those were some gruesome photos. We didn't get any sense of the power of that storm out here in the Pacific Northwet. Unreal.
