I noticed the pro vs jobber discussion a while ago, and now Im in the position of needing a CM calc. I believe its the IV, the grey one is about $40 at HD and Lowes right now, I think the Pro is around $80. With every extra $40 things are getting expensive.
Are there enough extra functions on the Pro to shell out the extra money, or is it styling and functions almost never used? I guess will I be disappointed that I didnt get the Pro?
The manufacturer write ups dont seem much different, and I couldnt care about a case and new look.
Anyone with an opinion please chime in.

I don't really know enough about the differnt ones to offer much of an opinion.
But in general, I think the simpler ones are enough for almost anyone, unless you want the trig functions.
Under what conditions would I need the trig functions?
"Under what conditions would I need the trig functions?"
I guess only you can answer that. If you do trig, you need trig functions. If you don't do trig you don't need the functions.
I posed this question to Gary Katz on his website and his advice was get the Pro
Can't recall exactly what they were, but seems he said there were at least three things that you would use all the time that would justify the pro in short order
I seem to recall something about the Pro having a much more user friendly memory function
It all depends on what you will be using it for. Do you do a lot of Roof Framing?
The CMP PRO is only 60.00 at Amazon.

I dont do a lot of framing, occasional wall or project/rework only.
I mostly do finish, and wanted the calc for stairs, and rail. I am one of the types that would take the time to figure out anything if someone asked.... Id jump on a curved stair or vaulted ceiling if it came up.
I guess I am just trying to cover all bases, the amazon price makes it a bit less of a sting. I just didnt want to pay for something I wouldnt ever put to use.
