Time once again to tap the collective braintrust which is Breaktime for some advice…Installing a 1×4″ T & G clear vertical grain fir floor in a small second bathroom (< 35 square feet). Due to the cramped quarters and unwillingness to hire someone, I am not going to sand it after install. Instead I would like to leave it looking a little rough and uneven…under a coating of thick floor finish…which hopefully will be smooth. I have seen what looks like an epoxy coating over rough wood and fieldstone at several stores. It has a slightly milky look to it and was built up to a very thick layer such that the final floor surface was smooth despite the rough material underneath. Anyhone know what this coating is? Two part epoxy? Multiple layers of polyurethane?
Also, I am not keen on face nailing the first couple of rows until the floor stapler will fit…can I just glue the first couple of rows with PLC or something.
Thanks for the advice…and a Happy New year to all.
Phil

I don't think it's a good idea. You can do it, but I don't think it's the right product for that location - I could be of course be wrong (again).
