Code Requirement for PT Floor Joists?
I was told by an architect today that the California Building Code (based on the IRC) requires that floor joists in an inaccessable crawlspace be PT. I had never heard of that. The project in question is a porch area framed over a full perimeter foundation with ground to joist clearance of >18″, so as far as I am aware dont need to be PT. The foundation is on all four sides, so yes it is technically inaccessible. Did I miss a nuance in the code? Anyone hear of this before? I’ve attached a picture.
Thanks!
