Hello all! This is my first time using this forum. I’m hoping it will be a good experiance and I’m anxious to see how well it works. Do here goes! I live in Alabama. Can anyone provide the specific code requirments for the maximum height deviation between successive stair treds in a straigh run stair case? Also is there a total maximum deviation from top to bottom?

The IRC ( International Residentual Code) calls for max. riser heigth to be 7 3/4", with no more than 3/8 difference between highest and shortest. That said, although most local codes are based on the IRC, local codes can add or differ from them. In my area the max. diff. in a flight of stairs is 3/8" , with the added that the max. between adjoining risers can be no more then 3/16", so for me in Fla. it's 3/16". When in doubt check with local building dept. , depending on which side of the bed he got up on , an inspector may just look at stairs or wip out the tape measurement , the 4" ball, and fine tooth comb. Woody,
If you have this problem in an existing stair, rather than varying one tread, spread the change over time, and a number of treads.... the most common accidents is due to abrupt change in height that a walker is unaware of.
