Does anyone have info to share on how to keep an excavated hole from freezing while a footing and foundation are poured? How long do you need to provide the protection once the concrete work is complete?

ken... where are you located ? it makes a difference..
*We generally tent ours until after the slab has set up or until the block is done. If it's real cold then we run a vented heater in there. There's always straw, foam board or blankets that you get from the concrete store/ rental place.Dave
*Thank you for the responses. Mike, I live in the Chicago area. I've studied up on techniques to cover and insulate the concrete while it is curing, ordering concrete with calcium, air entrainment, etc. My concern is what to do after the concrete work is done and time will pass while the floor framing is completed to allow backfilling. This particular project is small, but what happens on say a whole house? Is it a problem if the ground freezes after the foundation is in, but before the project is backfilled?
