Have a Steel 12 x 30 C Channel installed and now installing the steel posts (3.5 dia) to support them.
Wonder what people think the optimum placement of the Column is under a Channel. Obviously with an I beam you center the column, What is the center of the Channel.
Attached are a couple of pictures and a drawing of the situation.
Right now I am thinking that the center of the column would be best somewhere around the inside edge of the web.
Thoughts??

May have answered my own question, found this site that shows the center of the channel Cx It shows .674 in from the flat side.
Pretty close to my guess.
