Will electric code allow a combination bath light/exhaust fan in the shower or does it have to be outside the footprint? Its a one piece fiberglass tub/shower with a shower curtain if that makes a difference, and I’m in NJ. Thanks in advance for any advice. Dave

Somebody with more knowledge than will hopfully have a better answer, but i think code allows in it the shower, but it has to be on a dedicated GfCI breaker.
Spike is correct. The only reason it requires GFI protection is because pretty much every manufacturer requires it.
My plumbers installed a light/fan in a shower I built recently. It's made for the shower area.
I'm on LI in NY

Did your electrician do the plumbing for you?

I was gonna go back and edit but I didn't think anyone'd notice...lol.My sparky did it while my plumbers were there but the guy that owns the plumbing company I've been using the past dozen or more years is a licensed electrician but just uses that for as few things as possible like hooking up new systems etc.View Image

Check the NJ code but I believe it will also specify that the switch needs to be a certain distance outside the shower area.

DE requirements:
Fan / light combo OK over shower or tub assuming 8' or greater ceiling hieght over tub / shower and unit is rated for use (I have never seen one that wasn't).
Switch(s) for unit must be outside of the footprint.
Must be GFCI protected, but does not have to be a dedicated line.
