I would like to trim the interior windows and doors on the mainfloor of my house with salvaged 1/4 cut red oak and 9 inch oak baseboards. I was wondering what people considered to be complementatry domenstic woods to red oak for use in dressing out the built-in bookcases, accent pieces, etc.? Any comment?

Assuming you want a contrasting wood, I would go with ash. It has a simalar grain and is off white in colour. Not to pricy either.
