Can anyone recommend one type of composite decking over another? There are so many different products to choose from – Trex, Geodeck, Boardwalk, Eon, and so on, that it is difficult to make a decision. We want to be sure we are using a product that is going to satisfy our customers.
Any tips, recommendations, etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks

I've been in the TREX camp for years as a building supply salesman. It wasn't perfect but had the most going for it. When making product recommendations to contractors (I don't sell to homeowners directly) I will often run a "my house, my money" scenario, which is what I want to do with your request. Although I still sell a large amount of TREX, my personal preference has gone over to Evergrain, made by Epoch. You can find out about it at http://www.epochwood.com. Simply put, they've beat TREX at their own game. If I had to limit it to one feature & benefit, I'd say that because Evergrain is pressed in a mold rather than being extruded like all(?) the others, the dimensional variations and surface irregularities common to TREX are virtually all gone. I've had a number of deck specialists try Evergrain and never go back to TREX. That says something as these were guys who'd been using TREX five & six years now.

Epoch runs about 30% more then Trex..........if that's a consideration. Personally, I've always had a problem with a fake grain in something that is obviously not natural.....sorta like vinyl siding........but that just may be me! jocobe
Jocobe, I agree!
Why can't these manufacturers recognize we live in the 21st century? They make a great new material, so let it look like what it is.
Putting faux treatments like woodgrain on this stuff is as tacky as fake columns and 17th century Italianette villas in North America. Are consumers so afraid of their own reality (or lack so much imagination) that they have to live in the fake little amusement parks all the time?
