if i remember correctly, a 2-hole concrete block weighs approx'ly 37lbs
36 lbs when I bought a bunch from one supplier, 43 lbs when bought from a different supplier. Both batches were 2-holes.
Morning or night?
There's a considerable difference, but average is about 40 lbs. at dawn.

The heavy ones sink to the bottom. Ones on top only weigh about 30 pounds. Ones on the bottom tend to weigh about 87. Same thing happens with plywood or OSB. Try to use the ones on the bottom first. Then when you're tired at the end of the day, you can use the lighter ones on top.
Better yet, specify Haydite block from the supplier....none will weigh more than 28# soaking wet.
I usually just pay somebody to pick them up for me. and then to lay back down.
I never noticed, but I think you're right. No wonder those pallets look so tired.
Next time I'll specify top layer blocks only.
Or maybe use Johnnie"s method, pay some other dummy to mess with them.

I can only clear up half the confusion. You're getting different answers because there are two different types of concrete block, regular and lightweight. Lightweight is used for taller walls, or in high-rise buildings, or retrofitting on an existing concrete floor where the difference in weight might make the difference between needing to cut the slab and pour a footing or not.
But, I don't have my references with me so I don't know the weight of either.
I think Pocket Ref sez about 38 to 40 lbs. for "lightweight" block.
