I am looking a building a concrete border around my porch to which I will morter some 2″ pavers. The concrete border and 2″ pavers will retain dry laid pavers (with sand in the joints). My question is should I add expansion joint material between the current pad and the new concrete footer. The border will be 8″ x 4″ Thanks.

Hi Mike, not a 100% sure on what you're doing, but I don't think you will need any expansion material.
What you may want to consider is construction joints segmenting your curb, instead. The curb or border your going to be forming will tend to crack and if you saw cut the curb every 10 ft or so, you should be able to contain the cracks in the saw cuts.

Gabe,
Thanks for your response. I know my message was confusing, but I am a little out of my element here.
I am building a patio and would like my porch to match it so I am placing matching pavers on the concrete porch poured with my house. The border I referenced in the question is going to retain the pavers on the porch which are being laid without an adhesive.
I choose this method over a thin set or similar method of attaching the pavers to the patio mainly because I want to color the footer concrete to match the patio's footer. Because of the elevation of my house and the slope in the yard the footers will be visible. Thanks again.
