I am in the proccess of making some concrtete counter tops and am not happy with my initial results. I want to pour the concrete in place because of the shape and jobsite location, so I need to have a troweled smooth surface that is glass smooth when finished. Is there a way to trowel it that smooth or should I just give up and use a thick layer of epoxy on the surface?

Glass smooth sure ain't easy... I've used polishing pads and also poured epoxy. Both have their pros and cons. Have you read Cheng's and Rhode's books? Rhodes in particular (IIRC) talks about polishing.
sooo....no way to pour it upside down & flip?
Could you press it using melamine on top and clamps? (kinda like a 4-sided mold) Mix a little on the wet side, fill with acryl 80 & portland, polish with diamond pads etc? Just thinking out loud here...
Or hire someone who is trowel-gifted. My flatwork guy charges .55 s.f. - for a kitchen job, he'd be a bargain! <g>
