Howdy.
I have a cutomers whos basement floor used to be exterior porch. it slopes 0 – 2 inches over 12 ft x 18 ft wide and has a good painted surface. I need to level it but i am unsure which is the best method or porducts to use. concrete wont feather to 0 and using self leveling compounds would be a fortune. now normally i would apply bonding agent to the old concrete, but this is painted. Do i still use it? Should i use a mesh to avoid cracks in the future?
HO dosent want wood as the other half is concrete already.
Nobody i have asked can give me a decent idea of how or which products to use.

Instead of going 2" to 0" can you go 4" to 2" or better 6" to 4"?
Do you have "fibermesh" concrete in Vancover?
You need to get rid of the paint.
Grinder. Take some extra off the high side.

just demo and repour
I'm not sure how an exterior porch became a basement floor... I guess the porch was on the walkout side of a basement?
You do need to get rid of the paint first. After you remove the paint you can level the deep section with a mud bed and then pour self-leveling out to a feather edge for the rest. See the photos for an example.

Thanks, thats a great idea. I would do that but one of the companies that makes self leveling products finally got back to me and i can add washed pea gravel into the mix to bulk it up for the first pour and use just the product only for the last 1/2 - 1/4 inch. that seems to be the simplest way.
thanks for the info

That sounds good. You still should remove the paint from the floor. Be sure you use the SLC primer they recommend, and apply it to the floor before your pour, and on top of each hardened layer if you pour multiple layers. Also, you want to use expansion strips around the perimeter. Tack sill seal foam around the perimter and caulk any gaps so the SLC doesn't leak out.

I'm with txlandlord. Pour over top with fibremesh concrete 3/8' aggregate, even if it is just an inch thick at thin end. Form it on the perimeter with 1/2 in ply and cover that with base board.
