I’m adding an addition to my kitchen by way of extending the slab out 10′ and knocking out a wall. The existing kitchen slab is about 5 yrs old–tiled…The question of the day is should I rebar-pin the new slab extension to the existing one, or isolate it w/ an expansion joint?
Both old and new slabs are monolithic, placed on compacted sand on grade.. Location is central FL (no freeze issues). Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

In CA they have you epoxy the rebar in.
My plans called for #4 rebar with 4.5" embedded with Simpson ET-22 or similar epoxy.
I pinned it at 16"
Just put a expansion joint in between the old and new slab.
The link below has some info. It also addresses the greased smooth pins you were talking about.
It's "Butt Type Construction Joint type (b) - Also can be used as a contraction joint.

Thanks guys.. very helpful info. I'm pouring on Fri.---pinned w/ an expansion joint. #4 rebar taps in real nice w/ a 1/2" drilled hole.
