Hello Everyone,
I’m a long time lurker and appreciate the knowledge and eperience which many of you share, although where some of you find the time to do so is a mystery to me. I’m gettting deposed next Friday for a lawsuit involving a slab on which I built a garage. A little background- two years ago, the customer (my brother) hired the concrete contractor to pour a 30×34 slab and a small walkway. Amongst numerous problems, only one of the four sides was the correct dimension; it was out of square by 2+”; it wasn’t remotely flat (and the drain was the highest point by far); and anchor bolts were spaced 10-16′ apart and only stuck up 1-1 1/4″. The walkway had a substantial bow (which, as the contractor pointed out, “added character”).
Before having the slab broken up and hauled off, an engineer was hired to evaluate the job and make observations and measurements. I’m being deposed only because I was listed as a potential witness, but I’ve been trying to research basic standards for this type of work. I couldn’t find anything listed on NAHB’s website, just what’s in my code book (which isn’t necessarily relevant since this town has no code in place). I tried a search, but didn’t seem to find anything. Any input would be appreciated.
