Concrete testing? of resurface?
I have just been on an estimate. About 2yrs. ago the customer had concrete pads & side walk poured for an new addtion that never came to fruition. Now that they are ready for the rest of the addition the surface of the concrete is all breaking up. What I can’t figure out is the concrete still good or does it and just need to be resurfaced? Is there a way to take a core sample or get it tested? Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance

yes, you can take a core and break it. where are you located.
Yes I am in southern Central PA. Also what size & shape does the core sample need to be? Is there any thing else that I need to know while I do this? Thanks

I usually take a 4 inch core
I can tell you that a clen core taken wil yield a good strength, but that is not the problem here. Have a petrographic exam done (fancy word for a eyeball exam of the exposed concrete core for visible quality issues. Also test for air-entrainment and freeze-thaw. Freeze-thaw is a real killer and concrete can have bad freeze-thaw resistance from many sources including a poor batch to an over-eager floater....that's not a mistake, it's rustic
Jeff where can I find a place to do this testing and where could I find a dplace that would tell me what all these the results of testing means. The homowner is calling me eger to call the concreat company or the guy that is responible know I think that I em going to turn the job down but the knowleged will never hurt. I the homeowner is ready to chase this person down.... ( even thought this is proably an over- eager floater) I don't know if I want to get involed...... now. Your comments are very helpful. Thanks to all.
if you wasnt so far away, I do it for you.
You should be able to find a local materials testing lab in the Yellow Pages. Or, ask your local building inspector. They should be familiar with a few....that's not a mistake, it's rustic
