CONCRETE TILE REPAIRS – avoiding breaks

Aside from losing 50-100#s, I am looking for tips on how to avoid cracking concrete roofing tiles while repairing same.
Some sort of spreader board? If so, how to keep in position.
A trained 14 yr old 90# ectomorph?
(My score today is 0, Boss is 3 up. I think I can beat that.)
