Client reports that his hvac contractor ran the condensate lines from the A/C fan coils into the main stack. Is this normal? I’ve never done this and run mine directly outside. His have a loop form in them for a trap, but the water evaporated and sewer gases entered and filled the house.
What’s the proper way to handle the condensate lines?

At a minimum, the drain line should empty into a floor drain or a standpipe (like used for a washing machine) with a proper trap. But even that presents the problem of a dry trap, so either a trap primer (dripping water line) or some sort of mechanical trap valve should be used, unless there's another source of more continuous water into the trap.
Because this is so complex, it's better to run the condensate outside.
