Condensation thread from last week
Piffin-
I’m the HO that posted last week re condensation/mold in an unfinished walkout basement in MA.
Interesting thing happening this weekend. In the middle of last week I removed the poly VB that was covering my unfaced FB so I could pull out those batts that had mold behind them. I left those batts up that did not have any mold issue with no VB.
This weekend I decided to pull all the FB down and spot treat everything for mold. When I pulled back the FB that I had left in place it was literally frozen to the OSB. Moisture had moved through the FB and turned to a frost when it hit the outside wall. It was down to 11 this weekend but very dry.
Given that, I can’t imagine not using a VB as has been suggested from various folks. I think I’m going to try that Mem-brain stuff.
Thanks for the help.

Yep, in your area you should never go without a vapor barrier/retarder of some sort for walls above ground level. The tricky thing is basements, where you kinda want to avoid the barrier for below-ground areas.
