I am building a house with a conditioned attic. How might I handle the detail at the roof ridge? Should the sheathing close? Should I flash the ridge, before the roofing goes on? The roofing is asphalt shingles.

You can still vent the roof with a finished attic.
Might want to check with your building office to see if you can do a hot roof. Some jurisdictions allow it but the methods of construction have to be laid out for the inspector. Other jurisdictions don;t allow a hot roof unless the cavities are foamed.
So it depends.
If you can do a hot roof, sure, sheath up to the ridge. Fold felt over the ridge. Then use cap/hip shingles to cover the ridge and felt.
Thanks. A conditioned attic is heated and cooled. Venting the roof would defeat that purpose. Finished or unfinished attic would not impact this.
It seems that I misunderstood your post.A conditioned attic is, to me, heated and cooled space. To me that means in a typical heating climate I need a vapor barrier and insulation on the exterior attic gable walls and in the roof rafter assembly as well. Essentially bringing the attic space inside the thermal envelope of the house. The attic doesn't necessarily need to be finished living space, with drywall, etc. You just need insulation and a barrier to control thermal, air, and vapor transmission. Can I still vent that insulated roof assembly, creating an air channel in the rafter bays between the insulation and the underside of the sheathing? Yes. Simple soffit-to-ridge venting. Can I not vent that insulated roof assembly and build it as a hot roof, packing the rafter bays to the brim with insulation and omitting the air channel? Yes.A conditioned attic can have a vented roof assembly. Or a conditioned attic can have an unvented hot roof.So I'm simply missing the intent of your question. Jet lag, holiday hangover, too little caffeine on my end...my apologies for not understanding your question.Color me confused.
Thank you for your thorough response. My intent is conditioned and unvented attic space. My concern is the detail at the ridge.
