I’m looking for some general pricing info ($/ft2) for an average quality home of 2000 sq.ft in the long island area.

you're going to have to be more specific than that! I have a close friend in Sag Harbor where the cost of a place going up next door to him is close to $300/sq ft!!! ON the other hand, as you move west, it will vary dramatically. The idea of average is a tough one, too. any idea as to WHERE on Long island??
what data base do insurance companies use?
Yeah, I know that I was kind of vague, but I was on purpose. I know that the high end can be 300+/ft2, but I'm really looking for some average numbers, of low to middle income houses, not the mcmansions, etc.
The house I'm thinking of is 2000 ft2, carpet thruout, simple, store bought kitchen cabinets and the like. Very basic, but not quite the cheapest stuff out there.
