Construction adhesive and self levelers?
I’m just about ready to install the solid wood transition pieces and quarter round for some floating floors that I installed. However, I’m not sure what the best approach is to attaching the transition pieces to the concrete foundation and the quarter round to the masonry fireplace. Is a construction adhesive the right product and if so, which one?
With the previous room, which is about 300 sq. ft., I put down 26-50# bags of self leveler. The foundation was out of level by as much as 3/4″ in some spots, but mostly 1/8″-1/4.” What surprised me is that I’ve added about $2.50/sq. ft. in self-leveler alone to the project and of the products I’ve used, I haven’t been impressed with them as being true self-levelers. I’ve researched and used products such as Euclid, Mapei, Dayton, Jet Set, etc. and non seem to be as advertised and they range considerably in price. Is this something that everyone just adds to their budget to do it right, am I doing something wrong or missing something, or am I using the wrong product?
Thanks,
Brett

The first rule about self leveling products is that they are not self leveling. They still require you to trowel/float them out. They are just easier to move across the floor. Polyurethane adhesives work well.
