Hi guys,
Here in Floirda contractors have to take Continuing Education to keep their license active. We recently became approved as an Education Provider for these classes but are now trying to generate ideas for different class topics.
Anyone have any unique or not yet seen ideas for such classes? I want to teach something that guys can use and not just another class on keeping your books or how to setup scaffolding safely.
Thanks
Mike

The state makes your job a little easier by mandating certain topics be included in every 14 hour CE but it's tough to come up with other ideas when there are contractors from every discipline taking the classes only because the CILB makes it necessary.
You may have met or know of the guy that owns AAA Construction School in Jacksonville so for ideas you might want to give Rob a call. You should be able to get him to explain what works, for both you and your company and the contractors you will be in front of.
You have to have us guys WANT to come back to you every two years and tell others you are the go to guy in your area for both information and an enjoyable class. You don't want to have your potential customers think taking their courses on a cruise ship is the way to go.
Remember, it is a busines and you have to have customers to stay in business. You know the drill - read the business threads - it's all the same whether you are building for a customer or providing the CE to a contractor customer.

How about covering subjects that are changing or new. Such as
Or having a real estate agent address a class about what buyers are asking for or what they feel will sell.
How about one that real popular on the mississippi coast. If you take some one deposit and not do the work, you will go to jail.

Spend the last hour of the last class having the students suggest subjects that they would like to see in future classes.
Companies/mamufactureres have their marketing and sales staff. Commonly the bigger companies will have regional or district reps whose sole purpose in life is to get more people aware of their product and how to use it.
Ask your favorite supply houses about any new products or different applications of existing that appear interesting. Then ask them about product demostrations for your groups. And/or get their contact person's number.
Fer instance, some have noticed I am making different posts about www. miracote.com and their cementitious products/applications. For my own interest, I contacted the company and paid $250 to go to a 2 day training session out on the left coast. Since I've recognized many different applications where these things can be used. It's been almost 2 years, and I've forgotten most of what was discussed about techniques. But when I come across a new application - such as solid decks - I get ahold of the regional rep whom leads me to where a prodect demo is going on. And he seems quite excited about doing more. When I suggested he dispose of some of his expired material by giving it to the high school vocational classes, he was all for it. And volunteered his time.
My point, use your suppliers to lead you in the answer.
