i am finishing up a remodel of a kitchen. We would like to use copper for the backsplash and up to the uppere cabinets. The roofer has give me a great price, my concern is how to keep the shine and make it fairly scratch resistent.
Would I use a lacquer? or a polyureathane? or is there something else?
Thanks,
john

I think an epoxy--- everything else will scratch pretty easy

My first concern, shine aside, would be that the roofer is quoting 16 oz. copper, which (bends, creases, dents), at the slightest insult. I would look for something thicker. 22 or 24 oz. Jim Devier
check ebay for 24 oz copper sheeting. I've seen it there before at decent prices.

I used an automotive clear coat on 16 oz. copper for my doors. Holding up great so far, maybe 2 yrs. No overhang, very exposed to the weather on this mountaintop. The colors you see were carefully chosen and have changed very little:

Oh, OK. LOL
Large enough for grocery delivery? The larger door's a bit over 6' wide. The small tractor fits through. Not that we do it very often... When I built them, there was another plan for the place when we moved out. The normal use (smaller) door is 48" wide, which we find comfortable. Never understood why most doors were so dinky...
But to get back to the thread, sort of, the clear coat on the door is in contrast with the copper siding. The siding is what copper becomes in this climate, if you don't do anything. Door copper's held up well, even though only 16 oz. DW's a sales rep, there're clothing racks and sales cases going through. No denting. Just needs something firm behind the copper. I'd be thinkin' maybe not just drywall behind the backsplash.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!

fabulous doors...will use 1/4 birch ply and contact cement and use the automotive sealer...thanks for everyone's advice. Those doors just blow me away.

Glad y'all enjoyed the doors. DW takes 'em for granted. Then gets annoyed at access (lack of) other places.
You've got a plan! Follow the cleaning instructions before spraying.
