Just reading through the article in the latest issue and got to thinking.
Do they make covers for a vent pipe (sort of like a chimney cap)?
Would it affect the pressure somehow?
I’d think it would provide an opportunity for artistry and serve to prevent the ubiquitous leaves, tennis balls, squirrels, etc. from being lodged in the pipe.
Maybe they exist and I’ve just never noticed.

I seem to recall making one on one of Grants jobs, maybe he remembers better than I. Just a disc with a slit and made into a cone, a rivet or two to hold it , then a 3 legs attached to the actual pipe wrap, with a band.
No idea why we did it.

They do, but they're against code here. They promote icing up. We've installed them a time or two when the cast iron pipe has broken or a joint has gone bad in a wall or other hard to access area as a temporary measure.

Thanks. Hadn't considered icing to be a possibility.'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb
