So whaddya think? I’m building in a subdivision where those ever so attractive fiberglass (I guess they’re fiberglass?) well covers that are supposed to look like some kind of rock is de rigueur (don’t get all excited, I took 12 years of French, and that’s the only word I can almost spell).
I’m thinking that a copper tube with a top would look pretty nice. It would be about a 28″ diameter, by about 26″ tall. Flat circular top, maybe 30″ in diameter. Both pieces fastened together permanently.
I would glue a circle of Advantechâ„¢ inside the top. Screw a brass handle, that I happen to have, in the middle of the top, and into the Advantechâ„¢.
I’ll line the thing with 2″ rigid foam, ripping pieces in a bevel to conform to the tube.
Ease the edge on the top so no bloody patina.
Think it would work? What gauge copper? Would easing the top do it, or would it have to be rolled in some way? How fast can you get it done, and delivered?

How you gonna keep the meth heads from carrying it away ?
We have been discussing amongst ourself and have decided that you are all a pigment of my imagination.
I'm not real sure what it is that you're building. I had a well (and a cistern) when I lived in the sticks, but it had a hand pump mounted on top of the well head.
You got a sketch to bring me around?

Today we's learnin' about rawks. They's all kinds of rawks. These [picks up rock] is rawks which you throw. These here [throws rock at Rusty] is rawks that you get hit with. E.Cuyler
I found these things:

I'm starting to understand what you're after, I think.
16 oz copper would work fine as long as there's something to back it up.
You can use pipe crimpers to make the perimeter turn over the edge.

I think LUka has a point. As an alternative . . . I found some terra cotta chimney flue and placed that over my well cap. Large Terra Cotta Saucer on top and Voila- instant bird bath.
How big is this terra cotta? Not a bad idea... and where'd ya get the saucer, plant store? Winterlude, Winterlude, my little daisy,

Jeezuzz, I don't want to make those rocks! But, I think you've got the idea... don't have sketchup on this computer...Think the 2" foam ripped to bongo-like staves, and PL glued inside the tube would be stiff enough?...trying to keep it light and liftable, and insulated to boot.Would you crimp the edge of the top if you were doing it?How would you fasten the top to the tube? I was thinking some ell brackets soldered.I'll have some one make it, just want to know what to tell them... unless you want to stop by on your way to the Jersey shore? We've been making these little galvanized oyster shucking tables for our wells. Just a square pedestal of 3/4" advantech 36" tall wrapped in galvy flashing with an advantech platform on top wrapped in galvy. We run an extra electrical drop in the trench to the well head and set up a 3' hose bibb extension to the exterior of the box and the owner can set up christmas tree lights and a hose and invite his friends (and me) over for oyster roasts after the house is finished.
Copper is a little ne plus ultra if you sais que je dis.
And there is that crack house over on tobacco road just southwest of you off Lamont Norwood.

Terra Cotta Flue liner is round and 36" length. JUST big enough to fit over the casing with the cap on it. (Maybe 8" or 10" diameter I'm not sure) Local real deal building supply has oval, round, square, you name it. Just pick one with ID big enough to fit over the well casing. The saucer came from Blowes. 24". In the summer, it's in the middle of a flowerbed and kept full of water for the birds. In the winter, we take the terra cotta saucer off and put it in the shed to prevent it from breaking due to freeze damage. Then I put a cheapie plastic (terra Cotta colored) saucer on it weighted with rocks to protect the end of the flue liner and keep snow and ice from building up inside. Been doing this 10 years, flue has never cracked. I did replace one of the terra cotta saucers when I forgot to take it in during some early freezing weather. The terra cotta looks nice and I ALWAYS get comments on my "cool" birdbath. And if I ever have to pull the pump, I can disassmeble the whole shebang in 10 seconds.I don't know how to post pics, but would be glad to E-mail one if you're interested.

Thanks, I've got it. The diameter I'm dealing with here is about 2'... It would look nice. Winterlude, Winterlude, my little daisy,

I think it would look better than a fake rock...but won't all the other wellheads be jealous?
