I have a friend who bought a house with corian countertop in the kitchen.
It is beige color and about 12 ft long.
It has three cracks. Each one is 6 to 8 inches long.
The width of each crack is about 1/16 th.
Can this be repaired?
If so, how ?

It can be ground out and filled by a counter guy who knows his stuff. Unfortunately, the color match may not be good, and it may re-crack, especially if the cause of the original cracks isn't corrected.
So are you saying to replace the counter top?My friend says a new corian countertop costs $100 per foot.^^^^^^

I'm saying talk it over with a counter guy. Color match depends on the specific color (and how picky you are).Do you know what caused the cracks?

The house is a bank foreclosure and so they don't know what caused the cracks. My thought is the previous owner may have damaged the counter top by throwing something on it or hitting it with a baseball bat due to frustration with losing one's home to foreclosure.I'm just guessing.^^^^^^

They sell special color matched epoxies, although they "require" very expensive special dispensers. I paid about 200 bucks for mine.

Where are the cracks? sometimes best to finish the break and put it back together. any corian guy should be able to fix but make sure it is corian. There are a few different makes, might find the name on the underside.
Another option is to inlay wood or tile over the crack.

Dig them out and fill with gold.
I don't know the location of the cracks. I'll try to find out more about this and post the results. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice !^^^^^^

They can be repaired. it's not a DIY job though, and they don't just crack on their own. There is something causing the crack which needs to be fixed first. Color matching shouldn't be too bad because even if the surface of the top has faded (which according to Dupont is impossible....), you should be able to sand down to the original color fairly easily. Find a kitchen shop that is certified for Corian fabrication or even has an ISSFA certification. They will be able to fix it.
Thanks for the info !A repair tech is looking at the counter today and I'll see what transpires and report back.^^^^^^

The repairman looked at the counter top and bid $350. He will fill the cracks with epoxy.I'll provide any additional info as it becomes available.^^^^^^

He should provide some sort of warranty -- a year or so against re-cracking.

Hadn't thought of that !Thanks !^^^^^^

Mainly it's a test to be sure the guy has evaluated the cause of the crack and taken steps to fix it.
