Greetings All,
Am considering cork tile flooring in the classical square pattern set on a diagonal for my new house because it’s green and soft to stand on. I’m in the Midwest and seem to be breaking new ground here because no one around seems familiar with it much less sell it. They sell the planks. Wondering if anyone has tried cork flooring tiles, how you like it, any words of wisdom, good companies to buy from, helpful hints, etc??? All comments are welcome. Thanks. Derek

I just saw the floor a gal pal of mine laid recently of unfinished cork tiles, glue down. She did a great job making it pretty hard to see the seams, so i don't think you'd gain anyting in looks by laying it on the diagonal unless you get the kind of tiles with the beveled edge.
The cheapest prices i've seen on the Net are at Lumber Liquidators, $1/foot. I don't know what quality they are, but they ship samples as well as your order to get a look-see ahead of time.
Thanks for the info. Was hoping to find prefinished tiles in colors so as to have a contrast. Will look at LL.
I don't think LL will help because i remember all their samples as being natural browns, but a quick google on "cork tile" led me to many sites that feature colored cork tiles, such as http://www.corkfloor.com/ where you can see a lot of examples of finished floor designs. You can also stain the cork yourself, or even stencil it after installation.Just do some Web-surfing...there's a wealth of info on cork's properties and installation and design ideas out in cyberspace.
My very old house has cork tiles on kitchen and dinette floors.....been down at least 50 years. Still look pretty good, and so easy on the legs. They were not prefinished--nothing was back then--but have a nice wax patina built up over the years.
I would use cork again.
Only experience I have is, my wife wanted cork flooring in the kitchen, and we are in the rural midwest, and finally gave up, because we couldn't find any.
We could have ordered LL, but DW needs several sq-ft of every option to make the choice, and wasn't interested if she couldn't see them and topuch them all.
A medium to large guy named Alan, not an ambiguous female....
NOT that there is anything wrong with that.
I've been on a job with unfinished glue-down cork tiles in a kitchen, and one with finished engineered snap-together cork tiles in a billiard room. Both applications seemed really nice.
The snap-together ones did leave some hollow spots where the concrete floor wasn't perfect. I probably would have used floor leveler but I wasn't the installer.
The unfinished ones don't leave much of a pattern unless you get contrasting shades, but I think the subtle pattern of the same shade laid on a diagonal would be really nice.
Thanks for your help. As I mentioned to a previous reply, I hope to fine contrasting, prefinished tiles. I've seen snap together planks but not tiles. Any idea as to the source of any of those products? Derek
