All,
Building my first project. 12X20 work shop on post and pier. Floor is framed. Looking for the rule of thumb on what size and type of nails for each task e.g. rough framing verses say rough side/sheathing. Is there such a “reference”? Additionally wonder how many nails to use and where. e.g use 8p nails for nail sub floor to joist. every 6 inches….

Building Code has a decent list.
For framing you probably just need two sizes.
Use 8d for sheathing, and 16d (or 10d or 12d) for all fastening of 2x material.

most projects start with a box of 8's and a box of 16's ...
and a case of PL ......
then ya gotta figure what everything thing else needs .....

My wife and I went to a restaurant called Garfield's tonight, the kind of place with lots of stuff on the walls...
we sat next to an elvis thing and I went over to look at it. The original "love me tender" vinyl, with frame photos and other memorabilia. All held on with drywall screws.
but I'm not biased against dw screws.
