Hi,
A colleague of mine has Pex plumbing in his 7-year old home. The water system uses a well with neutralizer, and he recently found the Pex fittings are badly corroded. Photos are at:

Even if the neutralizer were missing, the outside of the fittings shouldn’t be this corroded. There’s many more showing corrosion in various areas of his home. Can the crimp fittings be installed too loose? Any ideas about what is causing this corrosion?
Thanks,
John

Is that Pex or PB? Anyway, corrosion is casued by moisture. Is it a leak? I don't know. I've seen the brass fittings on pex conensate in unconditioned spaces, so that may be the answer. The crimp fittings can be installed too loose by a crimper that isn't adjusted correctly. there is a gauge called a go-no-go gauge that is used to check the rings after they are crimmped.

However, if one designs to construct a dwelling-house, it behooves him to exercise a little Yankee shrewdness, lest after all he find himself in a workhouse, a labyrinth without a clue, a museum, an almshouse, a prison, or a splendid mausoleum instead.
