I have a client that saw a program in one of the home and garden channels about a home built with corrugated metal (steel or aluminum) siding. This is the same siding they used to use (and maybe still do)on barns and other outbuildings. He wants his new home with the same siding. Has anyone had experience with this or any advice for me?
Thanks,
Ed R

Ed, I've built a few sheds with corrugated galvanize steel, but never use it on a home.
I think I saw that program. I just looked at HGTV web site and could not find it in quick search, but you may want to spend a little more time looking for it.

*Do a search for Cor-Ten product. I believe that must be what they saw. It is a very heavy corrugated panel that is NOT galvanized. It is intended to develope a patina of sacrificial oxidation and to emulate the look of an old miners camp which fits into some locales.
*I'm not familiar with the project in question, but if it is a Cor-Ten cladding, I know of a house on a ravine in Toronto, Canada, that was recently completed with almost an entire cladding system of Cor-Ten panels. As piffin noted, Cor-Ten will appear much different from galvanized steel, as it develops a powdery browny-red oxide coating that prevents further corrosion of the base metal. The architects on the project were Shim + Sutcliff (also of Toronto), and I believe it was in the last issue of Architecture and Ideas, published by Carleton University Press. I also know of a house recently published in Architectural Review that has part cladding and an entire roof system in Cor-Ten steel, by Rick Joy in Arizona (published in the July 2001 issue I think). These projects, however, both employ flat sheets in place of corrugated panels. I believe that both magazines publish the names of the general contractors of each project in their articles, which should aid you in tracking down at least two subcontractors with experience employing the material in considerably different environmental conditions.Hope this helps.
*Take a look at the "dissolving aluminum" thread.
