Client wants a hookup for an emergency generator she’ll buy. It’ll be enough to power a few lights, the fridge, and whatever else to keep the LP-fired heating and some subsistence living alive during a sustained outage.
I’m wondering what the installed cost should be for a transfer switch on a panel adjacent the main, plus the 20 feet of related wiring plus 30A receptacle in garage.
My sparkie is quoting, but I was just curious what some here might say.

I bought the panel, breakers and wire for about 250 dollars a year and a half ago to install in my own house after I did one for a client. It is still in my garage in the original box. One of these days....

We have the 15KW air cooled engine LP generator with the 100A transfer switch for exactly that reason. Cost of installation was about 1500 with me doing all of the LP hookup work. So you probably should also get your plumber to quote running the gas lines.
