Client has 2 quotes for 2200 sf RFH system. I haven’t seen the details of either quote–just got a quick cost overview. One is $10,000 for equipment w/o labor. The other is 5,950 for all equip, plus labor and 2 bath fans, dryer vent and range vent.
I’ve already asked him to compare heat source, tubing manuf. But what else could account for such a difference? I know the bigger estimate is just listed retail prices be/c I know the contractor, so it’s not an arbitrary markup. What should be looked at to properly compare the two quotes?

Cloud,
Another big ticket item is the circulator pump system, does one have a single zone or does it have multiple zones, the more zones the manifolds and pumps and tstats all start to add up in a hurry. Also the types of thermostats and if the system has an outside reset will add more cost. I have found out that the bargain systems may work for some people but you get what you pay for with Radiant.

Jason's on the Ball. Zoning can increase the cost of a RHF considerably. Zoning Can also save money and be a better return on investment over the life of the system if the system runs more efficient due to that zoning. Sometimes ya get what ya pay for:-)
