I’m debating whether or not to apply 4-6″ thick veneer stone to the outside of my house. The stones weigh anywhere from 3 to 25 pounds each. I know how much the stone would cost, but labor is unknown. Anyone know what I should expect to pay per square foot in central New Jersey? This includes applying the stone and tuck pointing.

How good a job do you want? Tight joints take lots of "layout and hunting for the right stone" time. Wide joints can be done by any half-assed apprentice. Pick the look, and you pick the price.
*Wide joints are preferable ... so special expertise and skill with puzzles is not necessary. Assume a happy compromise somewhere in the middle. Any idea what price range the masons would ask?I found a posting from mid west at around $7/sq foot for common stone ... would $10/sq foot be reasonable for Jersey? I've had one builder quote at $35/sq foot for labor but I think he is delusional.
*Do it yourself.
*Lehigh Valley PA We are paying $16-$20 sqft including material. Your area would easily be $25 sqft. If you can find someone.
*If you can afford it, or have to patience to do it yourself, I recommend to go with the narrower joints.Wide joints look fake, real stone is rarely done that way (unless it is done poorly). So many houses going up with veneer stone with the wide joints and they all look silly to those experienced with stone working.Unless you don't care, in which case you should follow your own muse. Just pointing out something in case you hadn't realized it.pointing, get it?
*How you gonna hold all these stones and mortar up?T
*Philadelphia, PA, $35/sf including material.
*I've been quoted $13 a square foot in Northern VA. It is not 4-6" thick however.
