Celestial Lighting has the stuff we use. Levelite 24V with the reflector track. Go see examples at their website. Don't use rope light, because bulb burnouts cannot be dealt with.

Compact flourescent cans are availible....cove light is a big PITA in many ways
Funniest one I ever saw (in an apartment bldg. hallway) used stock ogee gutter extrusion for the cove...it actually worked well & looked OK
Agree cove lighting may be a PITA when cleaning out the trough unless left open?
Seeking alternative to canned lighting as will be installing on a 1st floor with little room forl insulation above can. Above the 1st floor will be attic storage; though attic will be insulated, there will be no heat source.
While researching canned, I saw where there is study in CA to limit the use of such in new homes to conserve energy. Studies often never go anywhere. Believe info may have been on http://www.pnl.gov/cfldownlights/index.html should anyone else care to investigate.
I don't think its a study any more.....as of Oct. 1 '05
..Calif. NEW requirements went into effect.... IIRC 50% of the lighting in the Kitchen....MUST be high eff. which means CFL in airtight cans"
