Has anyone done any cove lighting installations using one of the new LED products?
I am wondering how the LED stuff compares to the little xenon incandescents I have used.

Yes ... but the xenon is brighter. Check out: http://www.pegasusassociates.com/

In the range of 22.00 to 27.00 a ft.-- Yikes!!!
Nice looking stuff
No one should regard themselve as "God's gift to man." But rather a mere man whos gifts are from God.
But I'm here to say it's really sweet! Best form of undercab lighting I ever seen.
I'd say it would be too much for cove, though. There, I've used the rope lighting.
The rope bulbs will last longer. The xenon festoon bulbs don't last that long and are expensive.
What is your take on the ribbon product from Kick Lighting?
Here is what they say about brightness.
FAQs for Kick-HO-Ribbon
How bright is this compared to fluorescent? and compared to Lumilines?
A: The daylight white version is comparable to T5 fluorescent and 25% brighter than Lumilines.
How does the output of Kick HO Ribbon compare to Xenon?
A: Kick HO Ribbon is about 50% brighter than Xenon (and without the heat and high power input required by Xenon). A typical 5 watt Xenon festoon bulb is spec'd at 40 lumens but they are measuring all the way around the bulb. With 4 of Xenon bulbs per foot youget 160 lumens. Kick HO Ribbon is producing 175 lumens (from only 3 watts) but you get all of that light going in the direction you want. So you have more output from much less power and the all of the output is going in the direction you want it to. You can dim our product without color shift.
I have used the "Levelite" system of components from Celestial lighting, which can be outfitted with xenon bulbs at wattages of either 4.5, 5.4, or 7.5, and at spacings from 2 inches up (must go 3 miniumum with the large bulbs.
The installations I have done and seen all have used the smallest bulbs, which at the 4-per-foot spacing do an output of 88 lumens per foot.
We are looking for accent and ambience here, not light enough for general illumination.

If your looking for a low cost alternative to LED, Home Depot has rope lighting in different lengths that connect togather.I used some of it my family rm., nice warm light. LEDs seem to be rather costly, I priced some under cabinet lights and they were around $100 for a 3-4' set-up.

Haven't seen it -

LED is till expensive, at present it would take a long time to
pay for itself. I am still using small skinny fluorescents. Used LEDs only for funky stuff
LED for cove lighting should be a perfect application for LED and MUCH more energy efficient! There should be a number of products available that would work for this ... some w/ a self stick backing where you simply stick it in position.
