Let’s just say someone were to make a hole in the ceiling a bit larger than the fixture base. Ceiling is old stapled up white tiles.
Is there a relatively easy way to cover this? I’ve thought of cutting a disc of either thin wood or metal, to place between the fixture and the ceiling, but maybe there’s a ready made solution?
Doesn’t need to look really good, as the tiles certainly don’t!
Thanks.

At home centers there are decorative plastic escutcheons that are supposed to look like plaster that go around light fixtures--one of those may be large enough to cover your problem.
Edit--IMERC had the right word for it--rosette, not escutcheon. (I also want to call them "medallions).

a rosette from a BB in the lighting/fan departments...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Get a bigger fixture.
Get a "medallion" to put above the fixture: http://www.lightingdirect.com/index.cfm?page=search:browse&categoryID=14943
Thanks--just the info I needed.
