Hi everyone,
My sister and BIL are helping his elderly mother get her home ready to sell. In a basement den a brick wall is cracked horizontally and leaning against the concrete block wall spaced a little over an inch behind it.
The wall has been that way since she bought the home over 20 years ago and seems to be stable. They think that when the mantel over the fireplace was bolted through the brick into the concrete block wall, it was bolted too tight causing the wall to crack and shift.
The brick can’t be matched, and their contractor hasn’t suggested a solution.
What would you do in this situation?
Thanks for any advise.

When you click Attach, you have to wait a long, long time for it to happen. Like, get up and get a cup of coffee. It will tell you when the picture is uploaded.
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
Thanks Ed, but I had the coffee and took a shower. It still hasn't moved to a screen to select files.

Kestrel,
Are you using a popup blocker?
Sam,
That may be it. I recently installed Norton and it's being disagreeable. I'm trying this on a different computer.
Thanks for your help.

I'd have to see far more than that to suggest any solution other than rebuilding the facade, but with that much movement, I would want to be certain that the flue is not damaged also. That could be life threatening, not simply cosmetic.

Hi Piffin,
I'm sure you are right and I'll pass on your comments. Hopefully it will make it easier for my BIL to counter his mom's wishful thinking.
Thanks for your response.
