When replacing a ceramic tile that has cracked, what is the correct method and materials used to replace it when it is due to a crack in the concrete slab? I do punchout for a builder and have recently been required to do warranty work. All are monolithic slab here in Fl. The tile contractor gave me a roll of paper to use as an underlayment. Not sure what it is called. He advised me to adhere the paper the full size of the broken tile with mastic, then intall the tile to the paper with mastic. I have been doing this then grouting all in one procedure. Now another tile contractor tells me this is all wrong, the mastic dries too hard and the tile will eventually crack again. I surely don’t want to be doing these over again so I desperately need to know the correct procedure. Thanks in advance.
