What is the deal with this tool? Is it a real tool, or a death machine. Two blade rotating in opposite directions to be used freehand? Hmmm? Has anyone used this tool? If so, what did you do with it? I was curious if it would be good for cutting ag metal roofing panels. I was also curious if it could be used for scribing cabinets to natural stone. I looked at one out at Sears the other day. Looks to me as if it is idealy suited to cutting through your leg or forehead. Whats up?

In concept it looks like a good demo tool, what it was designed for only the drunken sears engineer knows..
but it's a crapsman so no sense giving it any real thought...
Now, now CAG, that sounds just like a kneejerk, unfounded reaction<G>Whaddyou got against Sears? Don't worry, we can fix that later!
other the fact that almost every power tool I've used of theirs sucked...
nadda...
;)
guess it a bad prejudice though, cause I was talking with qtrmeg the other day and he called it a fools tool, then asked how soon I'd be picking one up..
I said as soon as Bosch or Milwaukee makes one ;)
The only 2 things wrong in my book with Sears is Bob Vila, and Bob Riley the 7 fingered wood butcher. If they endorse it, it's GOTTA be scrap.
I know what you mean LOL but da Bob's don't make the stuff. Hardly ever go there any more, but when I was young, they gave me my first credit, not card, but credit. Helped me get started. Got a radial compound miter saw from 'em, too. I was chillin<G> Don't worry, we can fix that later!
I have one and it will carve away at wood without kickback but it doesnot like being pushed from side to side.It is awkward to hold the handle open.I have not tried it on metal yet so the verdict is still out.

I MAY DISAGREE WITH WHAT YOUR SAYING BUT I WILL DEFEND TO THE DEATH YOUR RIGHT TO SAY IT.

scribing cabinets to natural stone.
Use a right angle grinder, 36 grit, I scribe everything with one, never use a belt sander again!

and speed reducer, especially on cherry<G> Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Oh hell, you just got to move faster, speed reducer would be nice though!
I think I'll wait to see how many folks cut their fingers off before I try that one.
I've used one of those things, although it wasn't from sears.
It works great for cutting pole barn metal, as long as you only cut parallel to the ridges. If you try to cut across the ridges it simply won't work. It stops moving forwards and the wheels just keep spinning.
It only cuts more or less in a straight line - No curves. So ya gotta get the thing started straight.
I'd buy one if you cut a lot of metal. Just don't expect miracles from it.
.
This is one of the things that bugs me about sears/craftsman - They make it sound like they invented this stufff - Like no one has ever had this miracle tool before. But the one I've used is roughly 15 years old. So sears didn't just come up with this.
She got the goldmine. I got the shaft. We split it right down the middle, and she got the better half. [Jerry Reed]
Thanks Boss.
I hear ya on that! In fact, I've heard Sears doesn't even make any of their own powertools. They just license out other OEM's to slap a Craftsman label on their tools.
Their drills are Ryobi, biscuit joiner is a stripped down Dewalt, etc.
