Looking over the drawings for an addition project.
Architect has specced a painted crown moulding throughout the addition. No problem except in one area.
Problem area is a roughly 20′ run of exposed brick wall.
My thought is to make triangular blocks from 2x and screw them through the drywall ceiling into the roof rafters (basicaly flat roof).
The blocks would provide a good nailing surface for the crown every 16″. Rafters will run perpendicular to the exposed brick wall.
Any other bright ideas?

I usually rip a 2X4 at an angle for a continuous backer rather than using small blocking. Makes joints & corners a no-brainer.

Make it a full length instead of blocks. Screw and glue to ceiling

what you are proposing will work just fine. butter the nailer with construction adhesive and pepper it with finish nails. let dry overnight.
catching the roof rafters is only a bonus, not really necessary.
If you go with continuous backing, stop a few inches from any corner you may want to cope (so the piece that runs behind the coped piece can be run into the corner without backing in the way). Don't ask how I know that. ;o)
Good points all!
I believe I will go with the full length option, add some PL and stay out of the corners a bit.
