For an all-custom, expensive kitchen from someone like Wood-Mode, what lead time should be planned?
Does anyone have experience with http://www.crown-point.com/index.html, a custom cab place in NH that keeps its website updated with its (typically) 13- to 18-week lead time?
For those of you that are dealing with custom cab shops local to you, what kind of lead times are typical?

Gene,
We're doing Cuisine Laurie (sp), Kountry Kraft, Lewistown and Bertch.
For the first three, especially the first two you're looking at 6-8 week minimum. Typically I think we are looking at closer to three months to delivery.
I wouldn't consider Bertch "Custom" although their lead times are a bit shorter.
I have gotten shop kitchens from a good friend of mine in as little as two or three weeks depending on size and finish. Of course that is from start to finish and does not include his shop lead time.

gene,
haven't dealt with crownpoint or woodmode or any of the biggies.
we have a local family run operation within 45 minutes that has about 15-20 employees that does similar custom work.
lead times with them vary depending on what they have going on. right now, something decent size would be around Christmas, so 4 months.
if i catch them during a lull, which does happen, it would be 8-10 weeks.

My guy (I've used him 4 times now), will complete a project usually in about 4 weeks. Then I do the finishing, which takes another week or so. Then he comes back and installs everything within a day or so.
Does that mean the project is in his shop for four weeks? Or that your projects take him a week and he typically has a three week backlog?
Are we talking about something at this level, only about 50 percent bigger?

Flip thru these posts to see my pic's. It won't take long. http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=71249.1
It's of my shop. This took the cabinet maker about 4 to 5 weeks from the time he sat down with me to review my drawings to delivering the completed boxes. This took me about two weeks to stain and finish. My trim carp then installed the carcasses. The cabinet maker then came back and did the detail work and installed the doors, drawer fronts & slides.
Now my guy just makes the carcasses and drawer boxes. He orders the custom sized drawer fronts and doors. Says for the price we pay, if he made them, the quality wouldn't be as good, nor anywhere near what they charge him. But notice the custom touches throughout.
He billed me just about $9K for this work. The Corian countertops were by another guy for $1500.
I work for a company that installs wood-mode and brookhaven exclusively. I know that recently they changed their policies about delivery/pick-up and it no longer is cost effective to pick up cabinets from their shop. that being said, our delivery time from them in south jersey is approx. 6-8 weeks and depending on the size of the operation lead time to installation could be atleast a month longer. We don't like to hold cabinets in the shop any longer than we need to, but we also won't deliver them till they are to be installed. We don't like to be be blamed for damage that customers cause and won't admidt to. i've also noticed that alot of their deliveries have been arriving damaged lately too. I liked it better when we could drive out and pick up 2-3 kitchens at a time, but now you have to pay for that too.
