Hie, have a bluestone patio set in sand, been there 12 years, some slight settling (1/2) stone to stone. They want an Ipe deck w/ Pergola, and due to ledge, and possible effect on project cost, I am wondering about a floating deck, but we have never done them, using the plastic footings? all comments and experience, this is in Rhode Island. Thanks, Dave

I would use 4x6 pt runners set on the flat, use a diamond blade to cut appropriate slots in the stone so the runners would sit on the well-compacted sand, and build floor joists on top of that.
