cut inside corner in installed floor til
Here is the situation:
Adding a book shelf to the end of a kitchen island.
Island is over toe kick base.
base sitting on slab.
16″ Porcelain tile installed around base.
Need to remove existing tile where new additional toe kick base will be.
How would you do it so that remaining tile is not damaged?
This is what I did and it did not work as well as I had hoped:
marked lines on tile that needed to be removed.
cut on line with angle grinder and shop vac.
Cut up to each corner and as close to existing base as I could get.
(Tried the multimaster with the grout blade to at least score the tile face under the kick.)
Cut out the grout between two tiles.
cut an “X” in one tile to get started.
3″ chisel and 2# hammer and went to town.
Problems encountered at the corners
Under the kick area could not get a straight line, edge of tiles fairly jagged.
Of the two corners out in the open, one went OK, the other spalled a quarter sized piece of the tile face off. Because the tile had not been cut through at the exact corner
What should I have done to prevent the spall?
What will reach under the tow kick and effectively cut he tile

I use a tile cutting wheel on my 4" grinder. Why couldnt you simply build over the tile and adjust your toe kick heights?
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
I was looking out for the next guy. The homeowner was considering replacing the floor in the so so distant future. Had I built on top my work would get jacked up by the tile guys doing their thing. That thought did cross my mind more than once while dealing with the blow out though.
