For concrete foundation walls, we’ve about decided to take it inside and do strictly ICF. That’ll create a need for handling rebar.
What is your preferred tool for cutting and bending up to a #5 grade 60, and is this electric thing from Hitachi worth anything?

Hey Gene,
I do alot of conc. in the tropics and the hitachi is a great tool. DO NOT LET someone try to cut or bend #5 or #6 with it...it is great for sturrups and multiple cuts. Mine has lasted thru the year, we will see it's durability.

Forgot to mention,
I have an old Oatey manual rebar cutter/ bender that still works great and I use that for the #5 bar. Sometimes we use a metal cutoff saw for big bars also, depends on how much there is to cut.
To make multiple sturrups I have the Hitachi anchored to a table and set up a pattern for the guys to make the sturrups. I use nails as guides for different patterns.

Well, my FAVORITE tool for bending rebar lives over at a place called River Steel. I don't even know what it looks like, but it must be good because if I send a drawing over there I get bent bars right away. If you do some preplanning you can probably order all your bends and just handle straight stuff yourself.
If you have oxy-acetylene that works good. Use a large cutting tip to cut the heat it cherry red and it bends with channellocks.
Headstrong, I'll take on anyone!
Electricians love it when you borrow their conduit benders and use them on rebar!
