Finished framing the porch joists and noticed some of the ones done a few days earlier which were nice and tight have dried and gapped a little, nothing more than 1/4″ or so. There in joist hangers, well supported. I plan on putting in the 4×4 porch posts tomorrow, should I add say a 1/4″ when I cut to allow for shrinkage, does it really matter?
thanks
Kevin

Yer thinking too much.<G>
Just cut them to the length you want. You don't need to cut overlength.
If they do shrink, it's not the end of the world it's not perfect.
That's what I figured, made a few mistakes with the beam and ledger board and lost a few days having to take apart and start over. Just trying to avoid doing anything twice.
Thanks
Kevin
Oh come on.
Even us perfessionals do things twice sometimes. Why should you be different?
True. You getting emails from Farmstead with specials for a round of golf? I just got one a few days back and when I spoke to my buddy in Sparta he said they had 6 inches of snow. Never played golf in the snow, warm gloves, little brandy and I'd be up for it.
dockelly,
I would suggest the orange or green ball's, not the white ones, and yes the brandy!

Body-paintin' party up there in Vermont, huh?
Forrest
McDesign,
We try to keep them visible so you don't get hit there with a club...during a snow squall. And if you do, that's what the brandy is for. ;)
Dennis
Don't they just turn blue on their own up there?
MarkH,
Only if your golfing without pant's, or have a bad relationship with your better half;)Dennis
I haven't gotten any e-mails from Farmstead for a while. I played up there in mid October.
My clubs are pretty much put away for the winter. Its too hard to take a leak when its cold out there.
But the water hazards are a lot easier to play <G>
this isn't a perfect world but it is the end of it....
all the water is frozen over and covered with 3' of snow...
and I don't have my ice gear with me..

You can keep your winters.
We've got about an inch of snow right now.
And that's just fine with me.
you only have an inch 'cause us mountain men are being stingy...

Tear the entire house down and start over.
Do it right dang-it!
Bob's next test date: 12/10/07
Took your advice, hooked up the F250 and now have a pile of used house, going cheap.
Shrinkage of lumber occurs mostly in width and thickness; negligible in length.
