New one on me… Got a visit from the fire dept… mostly pretty cool… they at first didn’t believe it was a jobsite vs a warehouse… with my load of cabinets stacked to the ceiling… and with every tool for every trade onsite…
but… didn’t know & had never heard of a “cut & weld” permit but seems here if you cut anything with a torch or weld anything… you need a permit from the fire dept… good for 1yr… $25 as i read it even the plumber using a torch is required to have one… mostly states that all cutting & welding will cease 30min before you leave the site so that you have that time to catch any fires that you may have started…
went to obtain said permit… they didn’t even ask for a name… just wanted an address and the $25
talked to my demo guy and asked him about it… he was very aware of it… he said it’s just one more thing to cover your butt incase of an insurance claim… so not a bad thing i guess… my sprinker guy just said if you dig deep enough he was sure a permit was required for the use of toilet paper in a wipeing motion…

From your post I couldn't tell if this is a seasonal or year-round thing, but here (Whistler, BC) we regularly have Summer shutdowns of jobsites where even air nailers aren't allowed. It's for forest fire danger and is enforced by the local fire department.

Always remember those first immortal words that Adam said to Eve, “You’d better stand back, I don’t know how big this thing’s going to get.”
Seems like a trivial nuisance on top of the OSHA hot work tickets.
30 min wait probably comes from OSHA which got it from NFPA.
Its the law in Maritime work and in shore industries

$25 a year? Hardly worth the hassle. I'm guessing they just want an opportunity to inspect and track hot sites.

It's the only way to cut and weld. Common sense really.
I wait at least 30 minutes and even after that keep an eye on the shop.
No permit needed here.
I can't understand why my city requires a license issued for my dog but not for the cat. Every year they send me a renewal notice and I send in $25. Not once was there any other correspondence between the two of us, just send them the money. It didn't benefit the dog any and it sure didn't do anything for me, other then relieving me of 25 dollars. What good is a dog license, other than to generate fees for the city? I put a chip in the dog to identify her should she stray, a one time sort of thing, and wrote a note to the city when they sent me a notice to renew my dog license. Wrote,"Dog died" on the front and returned it to the sender.
